About Sharon Kingston

Reaching for the Light Exhibit

Blue Horse Gallery, Nov 13-27 2009

Sharon Kingston is a Bellingham-WA based artist creating abstract landscape paintings which evoke memory, atmosphere and emotion.  Infused with poetry and metaphor, these paintings suggest atmospheric landscapes through abstracted layers of color and form.     These imagined places invariably correspond to personal emotional states.  The innate ambiguity of abstraction as opposed to representation allows Sharon to explore the transformative process of making art, to seek a balance between inner and outer worlds, to modify an underlying state of complexity and to coax a simple beauty out of it all.  Her intentions are for subtley; for a lushness and depth of color and a softness of edge that engages the imagination and conveys a sense of place and emotion.  Recently,  the poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke has been influential to her work.

Sharon studied visual art and art education here in Bellingham at Western Washington University and has shared my passion for the arts with elementary age children as a youth art instructor for the past 6 years. She is currently resident artist, gallery director and art instructor at her studio/gallery Works on Canvas.  Sharon's paintings are held in private collections in the USA and Canada.
