paintings
February 2009:
The world is unsettled right now and we are all seeking a grounding element. I began these paintings with the idea to include only a horizon line and some elements of nature. It is from there and through the process of painting that they evolved.
To me, this horizon line represents something certain, the possibilities of tomorrow and the future. It is a construction of the connection between the now and what will be and between here and there. Or, maybe the horizon line is just that place we put our feet on to feel grounded.
The result of my efforts and thinking are what I call the After the Age of Abundance paintings. They speak of simplicity, of beauty bigger than ourselves, of subtle shifts that make big differences. They are my attempt to coax the beauty out of the ugly...and to find hope.
As for all the titles beginning with the letter A, I think this signifies the starting over and the beginning of what is now. There is a desire to move forward and to begin anew with an adjustment to our thinking and our patterns of behavior...and our priorities
