rosso over rosso after Rothko, 60x40" oil on canvas

Mark Rothko's work has inspired me from the beginning of my training.  I've read everything about him and studied his methods in an effort to layer color and trap light and create depth out of seeminly nothing.  My work is of course much more objective than his, however, I do on occassion indulge in the exercise of painting the rectangles.  Here's one of the paintings that was a result of that non-objective intention.
